At the end of 2015 we visited Big Steps Early Learning Centre and took part in the Russell Christmas Parade. In 2016 we were out and about in the community visiting Tangaroa College, the Regional Excavator Competition in Whangarei, the Te Pohe Bridge control room, and Warkworth and Kaikohe A&P Shows.     We joined with 220 other trucks in the Mitre 10 Mega Ride in a Truck Day - a bi-annual event that helps raise funds for the Little Elms Charitable Trust, lent a hand at the Hawkes Bay Regional Excavator Operators Competition, exhibited at the Waikato A&P Show and visited Mangakahia Area and Waingaro Schools and the North Harbour Rugby team as part of their professional development training.     Mr Mac has been busy spreading the joy of reading again and has now achieved 795 Duffy assemblies. The team also supported the Mainfreight Cure Kids Truckshow, Father's Day at Kiwi North and even a couple of extra visits to Onerahi Primary and Totara Grove Primary schools. The winner of last month's competition is announced and there's a great activity page where you can colour in and create a Doug mask.

    This was a very special month for the team as Mr. Mac was surprised by winning the "Hometown Hero Award" from Breakfast TV and Kiwi Bacon for all of his work promoting education, safety and industry in the community. We also got more letters and artwork from you, got to visit Cambridge East Primary and run a practical hands on careers day at MOTAT. Mr. Mac was also chuffed to see Youth Into Industry graduate Jake Rouse receive the Employee of the Year at the Northland Institute of Quarry Awards evening. This month's activity page is also part colouring and part Before U Dig quiz competition - send your completed page by 30 September to go into the draw to win a prize!

    The team has clocked up lots of kilometres over the last couple of months with the National Fieldays in Hamilton, visits to schools in Cambridge, Sunnynook and Great Barrier Island. We also got to hear back from some of our past Youth Into Industry students to see how they are progressing in their apprenticeships. We're very proud of these great role models. This month's activity is page is a "Listen, Look and Learn" safety message and colouring page.

    Mr. Mac visits with students of all ages, from kids at Totara Grove School to adults at People Potential, to share his motivational message of safety, education and having fun! As of this month he's done over 700 Duffy Role Model assemblies. The team were also at the Free Day Out for Father's Day, and got to attend a big gathering of Kenworth trucks in Tauranga.

    Mr. Mac participated in the Whangarei Special Olympics Aquatic ribbon day and the following Trophies of Achievement event. We had fun at the NorthTec Future Trades Information Day. Book Day at Totara Grove School was another treat for us. The team at Wormald helped us make sure we're fire safe and we finish off with some math skills.

    Mr. Mac looked quite sharp in his suit while a guest speaker at the Quarry NZ conference and it looks like a bunch of our friends are doing bigger and better things as well with Truckstops opening a branch in Whangarei and our friends the Hogans opening an automotive parts store. Our message of safety and education is still the same and you can see how we do that in this month's newsletter.

    We always love going to the Mystery Creek Field Days. We get to enjoy the fantastic atmosphere, see the Waikato Regional Excavator Operator Competition and of course meet new and old friends like the team from Tai Poutini Digger School, Dylan, Morgan, Savanna and Te Radar. We also went to the Art and Craft Show at Parua Bay, Russell Bay's School Gala, and visited with Pokoru School's Young Farmers team. Congrats also to recent Youth Into Industry grad Jamie.     Wahoo! Our visit to Ruakaka School was the 700th Duffy school visit! Youth Into Industry's class of 2014 got off to a great start. We also had a fun day at MOTAT running a practical hands-on careers day for selected Year 11 - 13 students from around Auckland. Our mate, Logan was there to help and is a great example of making goals and working hard to achieve them. Kingston sent us some great artwork as well.

    The team enjoyed a big Duffy Books in Homes Road Trip all around Northland visting a number of schools including St. Francis Xavier, Glenbervie and Pokuru. We also celebrated Harvey Norman Whangarei's 11th birthday. We got some great mail from you and were also featured in some magazines along with our big brother organisation –  Youth Into Industry.

    Mr Mac had a great time at the finals of the National Excavator Operator competition. We also had special visitor named Tyler who is undergoing treatment for leukemia. Other articles include Little Cutie reaching a milestone, a day with the Bay of Islands Vintage Railway, celebrating International Children's Day at the Pulse, two school visits, Leo's Shave for a Cure adventure and a spooky visit from a morepork.

Last month we also participated in the Hawkes Bay Show and supported the Mitre 10 Mega Trucking for Child Cancer Ride in a Truck Day. We also did some Infrastructure Introduction Days along with MOTAT and Tai Poutini Digger School for students from 7 different intermediate schools who are part of the Stand Tall Foundation Programme.

    We had a great day working with students from Dargaville Intermediate and the Kaipara Vintage Machinery Club, our Youth Into Industry students are progressing nicely through their work placements, Mr. Mac and Kerri-Ann got to lead the parade of trucks at the Te Matau A Pohe bridge opening and we got to prep for our upcoming Duffy Books in Homes assemblies with Whangarei Primary.

    Doug the Digger makes his seventh annual visit to the National Fieldays in Mystery Creek, Hamilton. While there he teamed up with Jacob from Meadowbank School to do some safety training, got to meet a great young inventor named Patrick from Matamata Intermediate, and also met up with Cody from Sunnynook school again who was motivated to have a go on the mini excavator. We also had some great newspaper articles written about us and our big brother organisation, Youth Into Industry.

    Doug the Digger featues in the Hamilton Press, the Opotiki News and the Whakatane Beacon after visiting schools in the area for Duffy Books in Homes. We also attended the Wheels of Fortune event and had lots of fun at the International Rally of Whangarei.     We tell you all about the national finals of the NZ Contractors' Excavator Operator competition, we also visited the Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT), had a go at the Northland Field Days and supported the North Haven Hospice' "People in the Park" day. There's also a shout out to our friends at Koraunui School who have posted some pictures of Mr. Mac's latest visit there, and we congratulate Youth Into Industry past pupils Reece and Ngaro.     We were feeling the need for speed this month and spent some time at the Water Festival of Speed Tour watching some incredible powerboating on Lake Karapiro. The Roadshow also went to a number of other festivals, galas and A&P shows at Te Puke, Warkworth, Dargaville, Whangateau including an interesting one called "The Hell Hole of the Pacific" in Russell and a Steam Punk themed day at Kiwi North.
